Lisa Gade reviews the Toshiba Excite 7.7 Android tablet. The tablet has a 7.7″ 1280 x800 AMOLED display with vibrant colors, and a quad core 1.3GHz Tegra 3 CPU. It runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and sells for 9 for the 16GB model. It’s very thin and light, and features a metal casing and Gorilla Glass. It has WiFi, Buletooth, GPS, 2 cameras, microSD card slot and a USB host port but no HDMI port.
I was going to get the nexus 7… then i saw this with a better display, i hear its getting jellybean, has cameras and a micro sd card slot with usb host. And screen doesnt bleed like the 10 inch tablet. Ill just wait for the price to go down and pick it up.
Nvm stupid question
Does this have usb host?
No Polaris office!
Thanks, it appears the battery life isn’t awful.
However, I think that when you review Tegra 3 devices you should see how they run the “staple apps”. Glowball, Riptide and Shadow Gun to name a few.
Can you tell us how the 7.7 fairs with gaming? The Toshiba site states it has DD2 800 RAM, while the other Excites use DDR3 1333. That can make all the difference in benchmarking.
Wi-Fi only.
Yes, this is the AT270/AT275.
Honestly, they all play Netflix well and similarly.
Nexus 7 is already on sale, or was. I read galaxy tab 7.7 went on slight sale too which looks much nicer. Nexus really kills tablets like this in their tracks despite lacking cell service. Googles OEM partners must be so pissed.
Does the “new” (not on sale yet) Google Nexus 7 have 3G/4G? Or is it wifi only? As always great review
I wish you would check out Netflix on the HD tablets.. Can you do this with the Nexus 7? I am very close to buying it!
The Nexus 7 is a better deal for me.
If Nexus 7 was 7.7 inhes
Lisa, is this the final release of the AT270, or is that another version coming out?
Keep up the good work. {;-)
how did you get it so fast – have my on order they told me another 3 weeks. argh! congrats and excellent review as usual.
So it has no HDMI port, but I’ve seen mini usb to HDMI adaptors for sale on Amazon. One of them says it works for Samsung Galaxy S2, HTC Evo 3D, HTC Evo 4G Tablet, HTC Sensation 4G, Sprint Epic 4G Touch, and Galaxy Nexus. Do you think one of those would work for this as well?
its and arm tablet with tegra 3 so Windows 8 will work
Any idea if windows 7 or Win8 could be installed on this??
Nice tab, though I agree overpriced. Love your reviews though I’m not sure why you skipped some of the lousy transitions like when books renders from dual page to single. Thank you for this.
You don’t happen to know an ETA for the Excite 10 with 3G for Europe by any chance?
i like this tablet a lot the screen is amazing on it. i love the playbook just because i love using blackberry products. but i have to agree this tablet is just a little to expensive especially when the 10 in is the same price.
I trust TOSHIBA in this tablet more than the lousy Samsung
Thank you so much for your response!!
Blacks aren’t muddy. The colors are very vibrant but they look more like colors in real life vs. an artificial (and more limited) range of enhanced colors. Skin tones look more human, for example.
When you say that the colors on excite 7.7 display are more ‘natural’, do you mean that they are not as vibrant and punchy as the galaxy tab 7.7? (as a personal preference, I like colors to be more saturated)
I also heard at some other review that the blacks on the exite 7.7 display are muddy and not as good and deep as galaxy tab 7.7. Is it true?
